POSTER BOY SUBWAY ART

ART:
Poster Boy is many things, but is not one person. Poster Boy is not just about subway posters or even adverts in general. Poster Boy is an IDEA. This idea grew from people’s distaste from the excess that infiltrates the mind and body. The excess from consumption, production, waste, and propaganda that inundates us constantly. Poster Boy is a rejection of this excess in the form of radical assent. Radical dissent, the traditional form of protest from the 60’s, has seen initial success but never lasting. Dissent, however relevant in certain situations, has to be reevaluated. Capitalist institutions have been much too successful in harnessing, marketing, and selling dissent.
The idea of Poster Boy IS NOT NEW. The idea behind Poster Boy has existed in many different forms for many years. Rebellious, Liberating, Culture Jamming, and Revolutionary are words that have been attributed to the preceding forms of Poster Boy. Uncultured, Destructive, Illegal, and Vandalism are also attributed. Confusion set aside, the sentiments behind Poster Boy are what remain consistent. As long as injustice exists so will the resistence.
