The nominees for the First Annual Art Awards which will take place at The Guggenheim Museum on October 29 have been announced. This glittery event is a brainchild of the artist extraordinaire Rob Pruitt, and it may prove to be a momentous occasion that ushers in a new era of pomp and circumstance for the otherwise too cool art world.(PAPERMAG)
The extensive collection of the gallery’s co-founder Sabarsky is the source for this admiring exhibition of paintings, ephemera, and especially drawings by decades of cultish innovators.@ Neue Galerie 1048 Fifth Ave NYC Thru 2/15/2009
The Triennial is ICP's signature exhibition: a global survey of the most exciting and challenging new work in photography and video. The only recurring U.S. exhibition specializing in international contemporary photography and video, the Third Triennial will mark the closing cycle of ICP's 2009 Year of Fashion, a series of projects that critically examine fashion and its relationship to art and other cultural and social phenomena. Through the lens of fashion—in its broadest conception—the Triennial will look at the proliferation of photo- and video-based work exploring the uses of style, image, and personal presentation.

Nancy Spero (1926 - October 18, 2009) was an American artist. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she had long been based in New York City. She was married to and collaborated with artist Leon Golub (1922–2004).
As both artist and activist, Nancy Spero’s career has spanned fifty years. Her continuous engagement with contemporary political, social, and cultural concerns is renowned. She has chronicled wars and apocalyptic violence as well as articulating visions of ecstatic rebirth and the celebratory cycles of life. Her complex network of collective and individual voices was a catalyst for the creation of her figurative lexicon representing women from prehistory to the present in such epic-scale paintings and collage on paper as Torture of Women (1976), Notes in Time on Women (1979) and The First Language (1981).
