Jackie Saccoccio: One to One,” at Eleven Rivington, contains just a single painting, but it’s a hyperexciting eye-opener. Running fifteen feet from wall to wall, ceiling to floor, it’s as substantial as a steel-plate Serra, as lush as late Monet, but located somewhere between a flickering film still, a weather system, and an ammonia-filled primal swamp. Angled sheens of color and foggy white transparencies, echoing dripped latticeworks and vertical pillars of brawny painting, provide structure and organize it architectonically and symphonically, with repeating motifs, perceivable progressions, and … well, you go figure out the rest. With the infinitely odd, weirdly scary show of Liz Magic Laser (her real name!), the Derek Eller Gallery continues its march toward quiet greatness. After its excellent winter show of Jessica Jackson Hutchins, whose work leaped out of the last Whitney Biennial, Eller is now giving us Laser’s insane 145-minute video restaging Man Equals Man, the 1926 play by Bertolt Brecht. Laser made this political exercise in various ATM vestibules around town, where intense actors recite lines as customers try to make deposits and avoid the interruptions. Her work also appears in P.S. 1's “Greater New York.” A star is born? ( NYMAG )

The Nervous System (Inverted), 2010. Organized and presented by the Pace Gallery, installed at the Sculpture Garden, 590 Madison Avenue New York Thru July 10, 2010.
For the glassed-in sculpture garden at 590 Madison Avenue, Conrad Shawcross has created a fragile-looking 50-foot-tall clockwork out of bobbins, complex metal armatures, and gears. The Nervous System (Inverted) weaves an infernal allegory: Moving and turning, it slowly produces a thick rope that piles up on the floor. It’s a work about the impossibility of perfection and the importance of mutation—but also the fact that it’s doomed to simply repeat itself without changing. By the show’s end, there will be a pile of around 1,700 feet of this magical lesson in the importance of variation. NYMAG
