Photographer Thompson began working with the portraitist Walker Evans just a few years before the master’s death, during which Evans infused a huge amount of his own photographic DNA into Thompson’s. Thompson’s portraits, shot on our streets from 1972 to 2006, show us familiar New Yorkers but never pare them down into archetypes.NYMAG
