JACQUES HENRI LARTIGUE

ART:
It's plausible that your whole conception of Frenchness comes from the photographs of Jacques Henri Lartigue. His images of fashionable ladies strolling the Paris boulevards, of early auto races and biplanes—so Français that they verge on being café-poster clichés, except that Lartigue was one of the first to get them on film. Before his death in 1986, Lartigue left his work to the French government, and this week, about 50 of his prints come to Howard Greenberg. Plan ahead: You're probably going to want dinner at the nearest bistro after your visit. — Christopher Bonanos (NYMAG) Thru 10/24
