MARK PALMEN
FAC(ES):
Mark Palmen is one of the great champions of fashion’s irreverent and unconventional types. For 10 years he worked as PR Director for the queen of them all, Vivienne Westwood, before moving on to support the next generation of style provocateurs -- like Daryl K, VPL, Gary Graham, Southpaw*Pawe.wa, and Imitation of Christ. It was Palmen who produced IOC’s earliest and most buzzed-about fashion shows/theatrical performances, such as the funeral-parlor presentation, the Sotheby’s auction, and who could forget the reverse fashion show, in which editors were herded along the runway to RuPaul’s “Supermodel,” while the actual models sat front-row discussing how much weight everyone had gained? It was, as Palmen often refers to things: “Genius.”

FASHION FOR ACTION
EVENT:
Fashion for Action
Housing Works has got to be our favorite bookstore/thrift store/AIDS outreach and service center, if we had to choose one. The relentless nonprofit is at it again this weekend, hosting a pretty incredible sample sale, boasting more than one-million bucks' worth of designer duds, all at 50-70% off. Get your shop on for a good cause: the sale benefits HW's Women's Health Center, which opened last year in Brooklyn. FLAVORPILL.COM

KEREN ANN
MUSIC:
She grew up with a guitar in her arms in Israel before absorbing Serge Gainsbourg and ex-pat Joni Mitchell in Paris. Now in New York, Keren Ann is charming the pants off everyone in sight. She released beautiful records with the help of her songwriting partner, Benjamin Biolay, until 2007's self-titled, all-English, all-Keren opus of gorgeousness. A testament to her unique talents, Keren Ann is being celebrated as her most magical release to date. Standouts like "Liberty" and "Lay Your Head Down" aren't much more than whispers, piano, harmonica, hand claps, and hushed guitar, but it has an intoxicating...je ne sais quoi.
Tonight and tomorrow at JOE'S PUB 425 Lafayette Street
